Rainy Day Fun

Rainy Day Fun

Not every summer day is going to be suitable for playing outside…especially if you live in a place with summer thunderstorms like we have here in the South! On days like that, it can feel like you’re going a bit stir crazy! Here are a few of our favorite activities on a rainy day…

#1

Bake something - from scratch! When you’ve got a long afternoon of rain stretching out in front of you, it’s the perfect time to start really honing in on that chocolate chip cookie recipe. Get the kids involved, make a little mess, make some memories, and get some yummy cookies out of the deal! Besides, who doesn’t love the smell of fresh baked cookies filling the house?!

#2

Watch a movie, and make it an experience! Turn the lights down, pop some popcorn, snuggle up with cozy blankets or pillows on the floor, and hit play on a new release or a family classic! It’s such a simple way to pass a couple rainy hours, but just a few special touches will help it be a memory making time, and not just regular ol’ tv watching.

#3

Arts and crafts! Gather everyone ‘round the table, and make something fun and beautiful! Paint rocks, make paper bag puppets, learn to finger knit a scarf for the dog…the possibilities are endless! We live in such a fast-paced world, slowing down and doing something with your hands is a wonderful way to really slow down and just enjoy the process.

#4

The floor is lava!!! Throw those couch cushions and pillows on the floor, make a big obstacle course, and get those little bodies moving - and your own! Gross motor movement like jumping will burn some big energy, and is sure to produce lots of laughs! Don’t want to sacrifice your pillows to the cause? I’ve found these awesome indoor stepping stones that are PERFECT for big movement and fun when you’re trapped inside!

#5

Go outside anyway!!! If there is no thunder and lightning, go play in that summer rain! You are sure to make wonderful memories with your kids, playing tag in the rain! Or wait out the storm and go puddle-jumping when it passes! Water is such a fantastic tool for calming kids, and rain water definitely counts!

No matter how you choose to pass those rainy days, I hope you have FUN with your kids!

XOXO,

Angie
