That whisper is a liar. Because I know where the magic actually happens. It’s not in the activities or in the schedules and routines. It’s not in the busy.
It happens in the margins.
It happens in the white spaces, on the edges, in the empty time slots on the calendar. It happens when you take time to breathe, to be decidedly not busy. Those are the places where we connect, and grow, and rest, and dream. Those are the places that we experience fun and joy and life’s pleasures.
There is much good to be found in the everyday, in the holy mundane - don’t get me wrong. There’s good to be found in the laundry and dishes and work and serving others. But if that’s all there is? If you don’t leave those white spaces and and blank pages? Burnout isn’t just a possibility, it’s a guarantee.
Protect that margin with all you've got. And if you don't have margin? Make it. Prioritize your rest, prioritize time with your family. Prioritize time alone. Prioritize the emptiness of your schedule to make room for the unexpected.
Your life will be fuller, richer, and more joyful for it.
