(NEW) Teaching Textbooks 3.0 Review { GIVEAWAY!!!}
Hey y'all, so if you've been following our homeschool journey for any amount of time, you probably already know my love for Teaching Textbooks! This math curriculum has made my life so much easier over the past couple of years! I'm so excited to share all about their new 3.o program with you and they've also graciously allowed me to do a giveaway for one of you to win the new 3.0 for one of your kiddos!
Like I mentioned, we have loved Teaching Textbooks and previously used the 2.0 version. It's been such a great curriculum for my kids, and specifically, my kiddo who has struggled in math. The lessons are taught via an audio lecture with a visual aspect as well. This has been AMAZING for us! I am far more creative and math is not my strong suit. I have found this to be such a great way for my kids to learn math where I can play more of a supportive role instead of directly teaching the lessons. I also found it really helpful in the beginning to watch a few lessons with my kids to make sure I knew the flow of things and what to expect for each one.
WHAT YOU'LL LOVE AS A PARENT/TEACHER:
Getting started is very easy, and once you set up your student(s) you can go through your parent portal and access everything! It's incredibly easy to navigate! From there, I can access the gradebook, make changes to the subscriptions (you can "pause" your subscription if you know you won't be using for awhile but don't want to lose too much time) and control things like hints and second chances for your students. I just love how you can customize this so much for each kid depending on their needs and your expectations for them.
Inside the Grade Book, you can see exactly how they did on each lesson and even if they chose to view the "hint". If a student gets the problem wrong, the program offers to show them the correct solution, you can also see if your child chose to view that or not. I found that one of my kiddos was never viewing the solution when she got the problem wrong, and I was able to discuss why that's so important and make sure moving forward that she was doing it. It's like having eyes in the back of your head, lol! You can also really make sure your student is grasping the information, based on how often they need a second attempt to get the correct answer. If you find they are doing it more frequently, then you can go back and go over the material again. It even allows you to delete a lesson if you'd like to have your child do the whole thing over!
It also makes record keeping easy! If you live in a state that requires you to show very specific lessons and grades, it's easy to hit "Print" and get your students records, a lesson by lesson report or whatever you may need to hand in, easy peasy!
The parent portal really allows you to have full control, you can choose to turn off hints and/or second chances if you'd like to, and you can also see how much time each subscription has left. Maybe you're about to have a baby or take a long vacation, then you can pause your subscription so you don't lose that time that your child isn't going to be doing any lessons. Let's face it, life happens and sometimes you just have to hit pause on school, that's the beauty of homeschooling anyways and I love that Teaching Textbooks makes it easy for you to do that, guilt free!
WHAT YOUR KIDDOS/STUDENTS WILL LOVE:
In this new 3.0 version, the student can change the wallpaper anytime they choose! I know my girls love to change them practically every time they log in to do a lesson! They can also change their "Buddy" anytime!
If you've got a student who doesn't love math or struggles a bit, you may find these cute little buddies help a little. They accompany the student through the lesson and they make little sounds along the way (which you can just turn off if you prefer). If your kiddo is easy distracted then you may want to just remove the buddy all together.
My kids absolutely love this program, we hear ZERO complaints about doing math! They've even been asking to do two lessons per day. I'm sure that won't last forever, but for now, we're rolling with it! My kids do their lessons with headphones which helps drown out the noise of 6 other kids and let's them focus! It's hard to get much quiet in this house :)
